Everything was fantastic. Jay had just played a great game, the Bears had won their 5th
game in a row and frankly looked as good as any team in the NFL not
name the Green Bay Packers. And then it happens, I check my twitter and
it is just filled with reports that Cutler has broken the thumb on his
throwing hand and may be out for the season. This sucks, the season is
over.
Or is it…
I
don’t think it is. The Bears are 7-3 and I think a Caleb Hanie led
Bears team has a chance to go 3-3. Now I am not gonna say that I think
Hanie is a good NFL QB, because I don’t. But can a mediocre QB lead a
Bears team to a .500 record? Of course one can, that is pretty much
what Bears football is. Hell, they went 13-3 with Rex Grossman and went
to the Super Bowl, and he is terrible. So what’s stopping this team
from going 3-3 with Hanie at QB? Actually, not that much.
The
rest of their schedule isn’t really that tough. They play the Packers
in Green Bay on Christmas, which is clearly a loss, but besides that
every other game they play is winnable, even for a Caleb Hanie led Bears
team. The Raiders in Oakland should be a tough game, but it is still
winnable, and the rest of their games are against Minnesota, KC, Denver
and Seattle, which are all junk teams. So it’s time for some ugly classic Bears football... play good defense, great special teams, win
the turnover battle, and run the ball. That can get them to 3-3 against
their schedule and give them a chance for playoffs. And if they make
the playoffs, and Cutler comes back healthy, you never know what might
happen.
